Why Claude needs a proxy setup that fits its rules
Anthropic's Supported Regions Policy goes beyond your IP address. Claude.ai, the API and Claude Code are offered only in listed countries — mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Russia are not among them — and the policy covers use while you are physically located in an unsupported region. Since September 2025 it also covers companies more than 50% owned by entities headquartered in unsupported regions, wherever they operate.
Sign-up adds a second check: every new account must verify a phone number from a supported location, and VoIP, Google Voice and app-generated numbers are refused. A proxy changes neither rule.
Where a fixed IP does help is the network itself. Claude Code reads standard proxy variables but doesn't support SOCKS, so it needs an HTTP proxy. Claude Enterprise can restrict access to allowlisted IP ranges such as office and VPN exits — a dedicated static IP gives remote team members one address the admin can add. And a team in a supported country keeps every member on one stable exit instead of a shared VPN.

Set up a Claude proxy in 5 minutes
Open the Claude preset
The Configure button opens Claude proxy in the console: Billing is Per IP and term, Use case is AI subscriptions and Claude is selected under Choose a platform. Check Region (United States by default), set Protocol to HTTP for Claude Code or keep SOCKS5 for an antidetect browser, set Term to 1 month, set Quantity to the number of IPs you need (one for each person, up to 100 at a time), then click Review cost and generate.
Expected result The IP appears in My assets; Copy all copies host, port, username and password.
Browser and Claude.ai
Install the Proxy302 browser extension (Downloads and setup at the bottom of /guides) and sign in with Log In to Your Account. In My assets, click Use extension on this IP's row (the extension takes HTTP IPs only), then press Connect in the extension. Open ipinfo.io to confirm the country, then open claude.ai.
Claude Code in the terminal
Set HTTPS_PROXY to the HTTP IP as shown below, start claude and run /status: the Proxy row shows the URL in use. Claude Code stops at launch if the URL can't be parsed, for example without the http:// prefix.
For a Claude Enterprise allowlist
Send the IP to your admin. Anthropic adds allowlisted ranges on request, so do this before you route the team through the new address.
Before continuing If your network can't reach the proxy directly, start the helper tool first (Connect → Helper tools).

Quick fixes
claude.ai says Claude isn't available in your region
Check Open ipinfo.io in the same browser. Is the exit in a country on Anthropic's list?
Fix Turn the extension proxy on for this browser or switch to an IP in a supported country. Remember the policy also depends on where you physically are.
Your team is locked out after turning on IP allowlisting
Check Is the static IP on the allowlist your admin sent to Anthropic?
Fix Add the address (or its /32 range) to the allowlist and keep everyone on that exit.
Sign-up stops at phone verification
Check Is the number a mobile number from a supported location, not VoIP or an app number?
Fix A proxy can't help here: Anthropic only accepts numbers from supported locations.
Claude proxy FAQ
Can I use Claude from an unsupported country with a proxy?
Anthropic's policy is about where you are physically located, not only the IP you connect from, and it also covers companies majority-owned from unsupported regions. A proxy changes your network exit; it doesn't make that use permitted.
Does Claude Code work with a SOCKS5 proxy?
No. Claude Code documents HTTP/HTTPS proxy variables only and says SOCKS proxies aren't supported, so choose Protocol HTTP when you order.
Do I still need a phone number?
Yes. Every new account verifies a phone number from a supported location; VoIP and app-generated numbers aren't accepted.
Can our Enterprise allowlist include a Proxy302 IP?
Claude Enterprise allowlists take CIDR ranges such as office and VPN exits. A dedicated static IP is yours alone for the term, so you can submit it as a single address.
Static or rotating proxy for Claude?
Static. A rotating IP changes between requests and can't be allowlisted. Use one static IP per person and keep it.
