Residential vs ISP vs Datacenter Proxies: Which One for Which Job

One comparison table, the job-by-job picks from our own console presets, and the real ISPs behind our residential exits on 18 October 2026.

Prices in US dollars, 1 PTC = US$1.00. At 100 GB the Budget line is US$1.35/GB and the Premium line US$4.50/GB. On the static ISP page, "Per GB (PTC/GB)" is a separate mode: usage is charged per GB to your wallet and the same IP is not promised long term. For one fixed IP per account, choose "Per IP and term".

What "ISP proxy" means — and why it is called static residential

An ISP proxy uses an IP range registered to a consumer internet provider while the server sits in a data centre. The proxy provider Oxylabs describes them as "officially registered with ISPs, even though they are physically hosted in a data center", and notes they are almost always static. That is why the same product is sold as "static residential".

IP databases see the registration, not the building. IPinfo labels the organisation behind each ASN as isp, hosting, business, education or government; MaxMind separates residential, cellular and hosting users. A datacenter IP shows up as hosting; residential and ISP IPs show up as ISPs — although both companies also sell proxy detection, so no type is invisible.

Our rotating residential exits look exactly like that. In the hourly checks on 18 October 2026 they came from Verizon Business (AS701, United States), Virgin Media Limited (AS5089, United Kingdom), Vodafone GmbH (AS3209, Germany), SoftBank Corp. (AS17676, Japan), Starhub Ltd (AS55430, Singapore), V tal (AS7738, Brazil), INDOSAT Internet Network Provider (AS4761, Indonesia).

When you want one fixed IP for yourself

If what you need is a fixed IP that only you use, the private proxies page covers it in plain words: how the static ISP line works, what is fixed for the lease and what the price starts at.

Rotating or sticky: the setting that matters most

On the rotating residential product page you choose an exit mode. "Choose region / sticky IP" creates a sticky session in the country you pick — good for a short login or checkout flow, but not a permanently fixed IP. "Global rotation" lets new connections use a different exit with no fixed country or IP, which the console itself says is not for logins that need a consistent region.

On the Premium line you can also pin a home-broadband ISP. If that ISP has no free exit, generation fails instead of quietly switching to another one.

If an account must look the same for weeks, skip sessions altogether and use a static ISP IP: it stays the same for the whole term.

Buy the right one in three steps

  1. Name the job

Logging in to accounts or a store: static ISP, one IP each. Many requests to public pages: rotating residential. Server-to-server work on sites that accept server IPs: datacenter.

  2. Open the product with a preset

Most platform pages link to a matching preset, and the product page lets you change the country and protocol (HTTP or SOCKS5), and for static ISP and datacenter the quantity (up to 100 IPs at a time). Rotating residential is sold as GB packages; on lines where wallet billing is enabled you can also pay per GB from the wallet.

  3. Check the exit before you use it

In My assets use Copy all, put the proxy into your tool and open ipinfo.io there: the country should match and the org field should name the ISP you expect.

Common questions

Is an ISP proxy the same as a static residential proxy?

In practice, yes: an address registered to a consumer ISP that stays the same. Proxy302 leases it per IP as static ISP and keeps it fixed for the whole term.

Which is cheapest?

Per IP, datacenter. For many requests, rotating residential from US$1.50/GB on the Budget line. A static ISP IP is priced per IP and term, shown live at checkout.

Can a website tell that a residential IP is a proxy?

Sometimes. IP data companies sell residential-proxy flags. Using one clean IP per account, the right country and no WebRTC leaks matters more than the label.

Datacenter or residential for scraping?

Datacenter when the target accepts server IPs — it is faster and cheaper. Switch to rotating residential when the target blocks hosting ranges.
