OpenAI only offers ChatGPT in the countries on its supported list. Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Russia, Belarus and Iran are not on it, and OpenAI warns that accessing its services from outside the list may get an account blocked or suspended.
The check follows your connection. The API refuses a request from an unsupported location with "403 – Country, region, or territory not supported", and in mainland China chatgpt.com doesn't load at all: GreatFire's tests have recorded it as blocked since May 2024.
What a static ISP IP adds is consistency: the same address, registered to an internet provider, every time you sign in — not a VPN exit that many people share and that changes between sessions. Give every person their own IP so nobody's activity lands on someone else's address. A proxy changes your network exit, not OpenAI's terms, so check the supported list before you rely on it.

The Configure button opens ChatGPT proxy in the console: Billing is Per IP and term, Use case is AI subscriptions and ChatGPT is selected under Choose a platform. Check Region (United States by default), keep Protocol on SOCKS5 for an antidetect browser or switch it to HTTP for the extension, system proxy or iPhone, and set Term to 1 month. Set Quantity to the number of IPs you need (one for each person, up to 100 at a time), then click Review cost and generate.
Expected result The new IP appears in My assets.
In My assets the IP's card shows host, port, username and password; Copy all copies them in one go.
Simplest: the Proxy302 browser extension (Downloads and setup at the bottom of /guides), which works with HTTP IPs only. Sign in with Log In to Your Account in its popup, then in My assets click Use extension on this IP's row and press Connect in the extension — the popup shows the live exit IP. For several people on one computer, give each person an antidetect-browser profile with their own IP.
Open ipinfo.io in that browser: the country must be the one you bought. Then open chatgpt.com and sign in, and use this same IP for the account from now on.
Before continuing If your network can't reach the proxy directly, run the helper tool first (Connect → Helper tools) and tick Use Helper in the extension.
Settings → Wi-Fi → tap (i) next to your network → Configure Proxy → Manual. Enter server and port from an HTTP IP, turn on Authentication and enter username and password. It applies to Safari and to apps that follow the system proxy.
Check Open ipinfo.io in the same browser profile. Is the exit the country you bought, and is that country on OpenAI's list?
Fix Turn the extension or profile proxy on for this browser, or move to an IP in a supported country, then reload chatgpt.com.
Check Does the live panel on this page show recent successful checks from your exit country?
Fix If it does, the problem is local: the browser isn't using the proxy, or a VPN or second proxy sits on top. Keep only one layer on.
Check Do you switch between this IP, a VPN and your home connection, or share one IP between several people?
Fix Use one IP per person and stay on it. Don't sign the account in through rotating IPs.
Check Is your script's request actually going through the proxy?
Fix Configure the proxy in your HTTP client — the OpenAI SDK accepts a custom HTTP client with a proxy — and test with one request before running a batch.
ChatGPT checks where your connection comes from. Connect through an IP in a country on OpenAI's supported list and keep using that IP. OpenAI also says access from outside supported countries may lead to account blocks — the proxy changes your exit, not the rules.
The proxy only changes your network exit. You still need a payment method that ChatGPT accepts.
Static. A rotating IP changes between requests, so your account would show up from many addresses. Use rotating residential only for work that doesn't sign in.
We recommend one IP per person. Buy as many IPs as people who sign in, so each team member keeps their own address.
The extension covers the browser only. For desktop apps use the system proxy or the helper tool (Connect → Helper tools, a system-wide proxy for Windows and macOS). An app that ignores the system proxy won't use it.
