Claude ban causes
Every documented reason a Claude account is banned, and the IP and environment causes Anthropic does not document, each with its source.
Twelve checks, each linked to the section that explains it. Run them once before you subscribe and again after any change.
Anthropic’s rule follows where you physically are, and companies owned or controlled from an unsupported region are covered too. No address changes that.
Do not share a login, an API key or a Pro or Max plan, and do not buy an account from someone else.
Put each account on an address that is leased to you alone and that you keep for the whole term.
Look at the network type, the hosting and proxy flags and the fraud score in at least two tools, and write down the date.
Set the system time zone to the one reported for your IP and choose browser languages you actually read.
Use a card in your name with the billing address your bank has on file, issued in a supported billing location.
The browser, the desktop app and Claude Code should all use the proxy, with no WebRTC, DNS or IPv6 leak.
Choose one country and one address, renew it instead of replacing it, and do not test other nodes on the signed-in account.
A 403 after login, “organization disabled” with an active plan, or “access denied” on Enterprise often has an ordinary cause.
Using a different account to get around a ban is itself a Usage Policy violation. Appeal instead.
Renewal normally keeps the same address. Auto-renew is on by default when you place the order and you can turn it off, so check the setting before the end date.
Keep the order, the billing details and your notes from check 4, so that an appeal can state facts: where you were, who uses the account, what for.
The checks remove mistakes you control. They do not make an account immune: Anthropic decides on its own rules and signals, and we do not know them. Platform risk-control policies change from time to time, and we cannot guarantee that any account will stay 100% free of bans.
None of this helps if you are physically in a region where Claude is not supported; the Supported Regions Policy covers use while physically located there, and nothing on this list changes it.
The documented ones: be in a supported region, one person per account, your own payment method, and no second account after a ban. The network and environment checks are habits we recommend; Anthropic does not document them.
Once before you subscribe, and again after any change to the IP, the browser, the operating system or the payment method.
We recommend one account per person, and one dedicated address per account. That keeps accounts from being linked by network.
Official documentation · Confirmed on:
Read on 29 October 2026: use by persons while physically located in an unsupported region is not supported; the policy also covers entities majority-owned or controlled by persons or entities in unsupported regions. The page does not mention VPNs, proxies or IP addresses.
The page shows an effective date of 12 November 2026.
Official documentation · Confirmed on:
Read on 29 October 2026. Ban reasons listed: repeated violations of the Usage Policy, account creation from an unsupported location, Terms of Service violations. Users are warned when Anthropic believes their prompts break the policy; for API customers the warnings are tied to thresholds across the whole API account. The appeal form opens only after you log in at claude.ai with the banned account; banned Free, Pro and Max users can still export their data (possibly restricted, depending on the violation) or delete the account. The article does not mention VPNs or IP addresses and says response times are longer than normal.

Read on 29 October 2026: section 2 — you may not share your account login information, Anthropic API key or account credentials with anyone else, and may not make your account available to anyone else; you must be at least 18 or the minimum age to consent in your location, whichever is higher. Section 12 — if access is terminated for a violation of the Terms, a subscriber is not entitled to a refund.
