Perplexity Proxy: A Static IP for the Perplexity App and API

One fixed address for your Perplexity account and your API server — and the country parameter for everything regional.

Perplexity live connectivity

Every hour we open Perplexity through Proxy302 residential IPs in several countries. These are the latest checks.

Only the first three octets of each IP are shown. Checked on dynamic residential IPs through the public Proxy302 entry.

Why Perplexity needs a fixed exit

Perplexity is a US service, and its terms put the responsibility on you: people who use it from outside the United States do so on their own initiative and must follow local law. The consumer service is for personal, non-commercial use, and the terms ban bots, scrapers and other automatic tools — programmatic work belongs on the API.

In mainland China the app needs a cross-border route first: GreatFire has recorded interference with www.perplexity.ai since January 2023, and its recent tests show the site blocked.

On the API side, Perplexity's official SDKs accept an HTTP proxy with username and password, or a SOCKS proxy, and the Search API takes a country code for regional results — you don't need an exit in every country to localise API searches. A static ISP IP is for the parts that need one fixed, known address: your signed-in account and the server that calls the API.

Set up a Perplexity proxy in 5 minutes

  1. Open the Perplexity preset

    The Configure button opens Perplexity proxy in the console: Billing is Per IP and term, Use case is AI subscriptions, Perplexity is selected under Choose a platform and Protocol is HTTP. Check Region (United States by default), set Term to 1 month, set Quantity to the number of IPs you need (one for each person and API server, up to 100 at a time), then click Review cost and generate.

    Expected result The IP appears in My assets; Copy all copies host, port, username and password.

  2. Use it in the browser

    Install the Proxy302 browser extension (Downloads and setup at the bottom of /guides) and sign in with Log In to Your Account. In My assets, click Use extension on this IP's row, then press Connect in the extension. Confirm the country on ipinfo.io, then open perplexity.ai.

    Before continuing If your network can't reach the proxy directly, start the helper tool first (Connect → Helper tools) and tick Use Helper in the extension.

  3. Use it in the API

    Install the SDK with pip install perplexityai, set PERPLEXITY_API_KEY and pass the proxy through http_client as in the example below. Run one search before you start a batch.

  4. Localise results with country, not exits

    For results from a given country, set the Search API's country parameter (US, GB, DE, JP and so on). Keep the proxy for a fixed source address.

Perplexity API through the proxy (Python)

from perplexity import Perplexity, DefaultHttpxClient

# Reads PERPLEXITY_API_KEY from the environment.
client = Perplexity(
    http_client=DefaultHttpxClient(
        proxy="http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT", # your static ISP IP
    )
)

search = client.search.create(query="static ISP proxy", country="US", max_results=5)
for result in search.results:
    print(f"{result.title}: {result.url}")

Based on Perplexity's SDK configuration docs: http_client takes an HTTP proxy URL with username and password, or a SOCKS proxy URL. The country argument localises Search API results, so you don't need an exit in each country for that.

Quick fixes

perplexity.ai doesn't load

Check Does the live panel on this page show recent successful checks from your exit country, and is the extension on in this browser?

Fix If the panel shows successes, the problem is local: turn the proxy on for this browser and keep only one VPN or proxy layer.

The SDK times out or can't connect

Check Is the proxy URL in http_client, with http://, the right port and the credentials?

Fix Copy the details again from My assets and test with a single search.

API results come from the wrong country

Check Did you set the country parameter on the search?

Fix Set country to the ISO code you need; that's how the Search API localises results.

Your account keeps asking you to sign in again

Check Do you switch between this IP, a VPN and your own connection?

Fix Keep the account on one static IP.

Perplexity proxy FAQ

Can I use Perplexity from mainland China?

Not directly: GreatFire has recorded interference with www.perplexity.ai since January 2023 and its recent tests show it blocked, so you need a cross-border route. Perplexity's terms also say use outside the US is at your own initiative and subject to local law.

Can I use the Perplexity API through a proxy?

Yes. Perplexity's SDK docs show how to pass an HTTP proxy with username and password, or a SOCKS proxy, through http_client.

Do I need proxies in many countries for local results?

Not for the API: the Search API takes a country parameter. A proxy gives you a fixed source address, not localisation.

Can I scrape Perplexity through rotating proxies?

No. Perplexity's terms ban bots, scrapers and other automatic tools on the service. Use the API for programmatic work.

Static or rotating proxy for Perplexity?

Static, so your account and your API server always use the same address.
