Proxy address, port, username and password
Every working proxy is described by five basic fields: protocol, host address, port, login, and password.
A system proxy applies to the whole computer, but Windows and macOS set it up differently. Below are the steps from the official Microsoft and Apple instructions, how to check the result and the usual mistakes.
Have four values from My assets ready: address, port, username and password. Proxy302 HTTP is on port 2222 and SOCKS5 on port 3333 of proxy.proxy302.com; for a static IP use the address, port and protocol shown in My assets, because each IP is issued with one protocol. The proxy address, port and login guide explains how to read these values.
The Microsoft instructions for manual setup go like this.
Open Settings and select Network & internet, then Proxy.
Under Manual proxy setup, next to Use a proxy server, select Set up.
Turn on Use a proxy server.
In the Proxy IP address and Port boxes, enter the address and port.
If you do not want the proxy for certain sites, enter the ending of the website address in the exception list; the page shows the format *.contoso.com, and several addresses are separated by a semicolon.
Microsoft recommends selecting Don't use the proxy server for local (intranet) addresses unless your organization requires otherwise. Select Save.
The Microsoft instructions have no username or password box: they describe the address and port only. If your proxy asks for a login, set it in the program itself, for example in a browser extension (see the FoxyProxy guide). Microsoft also describes other ways: automatic detection and a setup script.
Apple describes the path as: Apple menu, System Settings, Network, select a network service, click Details, then Proxies. The list has rows for auto proxy discovery, automatic proxy configuration (a PAC file), web proxy (HTTP), secure web proxy (HTTPS) and SOCKS proxy. For each of the last three you enter the server address and port number and, if needed, turn on "Proxy server requires password" and enter the user name and password.
For a Proxy302 HTTP proxy, fill the web proxy (HTTP) row and, so that https:// addresses also go through the proxy, the secure web proxy (HTTPS) row, with the address and port 2222 in both. For SOCKS5, fill the SOCKS proxy row with port 3333. Below them are "Exclude simple hostnames" and "Bypass proxy settings for these hosts & domains", whose entries are separated by commas.
A system proxy is set in the operating system settings, and some programs have their own proxy settings; the FoxyProxy extension, for example, sets the proxy inside the browser. If a program still shows your usual IP after you set the system proxy, open that program's own proxy settings and check its documentation.
Open https://ipinfo.io/json in a browser. The ip and country fields should belong to the proxy, not to your own connection. If it shows your usual address, check that the proxy is switched on and the settings are saved. The proxy location guide explains the fields.
In Windows, switch off Use a proxy server in the same settings window and save. In macOS, switch off the rows you turned on in the Proxies tab. Then open https://ipinfo.io/json again and confirm your usual address shows.
A wrong port: Proxy302 HTTP is 2222 and SOCKS5 is 3333. The protocol must match the port: do not put the SOCKS5 port in the HTTP proxy row. Type only the address in the address box and the port in the port box, with no extra characters. Exceptions: leave the local addresses option selected in Windows, otherwise access to internal resources may go through the proxy. Status 407 or a login box that keeps returning means the username or password was not accepted; see the authentication guide. If pages do not open at all, see the connection failed guide.
A system proxy only needs the address, port, username and password of a Proxy302 proxy. Rotating residential traffic is billed per GB and the exit country is set when you generate the proxy; a static ISP IP stays fixed for the whole lease term and does not rotate. The table shows exits in 7 countries from our latest hourly check; the probe sends its request to ChatGPT, which is only an example target of a network check. A proxy does not change ChatGPT's terms, and OpenAI's list of supported countries still applies. Details are on the rotating residential page and in the proxy location guide.

Hourly check of the Proxy302 probe, 25 October 2026, 08:29 UTC: one request to ChatGPT per country through a dynamic residential exit, using the public Proxy302 entry. Only the first three octets of an IP are public. One sample per country, not an average; later checks will differ.
Open the rotating residential page, choose the line, and keep Protocol on HTTP or choose SOCKS5, then click Review cost and generate.
Open My assets (the console page that holds everything you bought) and copy HOST, PORT, USERNAME and PASSWORD. The Connect page shows a ready example with your own endpoint.
Enter the details in the browser or tool you are setting up.
Confirm the exit with https://ipinfo.io/json through the proxy.
From mainland China, start the helper tool from the Connect page first and keep it open while you use the proxy.
The Budget line costs US$1.50 per GB, US$1.35 per GB in a 100 GB package and US$1.20 per GB at 300 GB. There is no free trial, and the smallest purchase is 1 GB. Which exit locations are available changes daily.
The Microsoft instructions describe only the proxy address and port. If you need a login, set the proxy in a program that supports one.
Web proxy (HTTP), secure web proxy (HTTPS) and SOCKS proxy, each with an optional password prompt. There is also automatic configuration through a PAC file.
Open https://ipinfo.io/json and compare the country and network with your direct connection.
Switch off the same setting you turned on: Use a proxy server in Windows, and the rows in the Proxies tab in macOS.
