Proxy address, port, username and password
Every working proxy is described by five basic fields: protocol, host address, port, login, and password.
FoxyProxy is a browser extension that sends the browser's traffic through a proxy you add to it. This guide covers the fields to fill in, the three modes, and what to check when it does not work.
The FoxyProxy downloads page lists FoxyProxy Standard and FoxyProxy Basic for Chrome and Firefox, and FoxyProxy Standard for Microsoft Edge (Edge has no Basic edition), and sends you to the matching browser store. The page says the downloads are free and open source. Install only from the store listing linked on the FoxyProxy site.
For private windows, FoxyProxy's help says that proxying there on Chrome requires "Allow in Incognito", and on Firefox "Run in Private Windows".
A proxy in FoxyProxy needs a type, a host, a port and, if the proxy asks for one, a username and password. Have the four values ready from My assets.
FoxyProxy's interface follows the browser language; this guide uses the English labels.
Click the FoxyProxy icon in the toolbar and choose Options.
In the Proxies list, click Add.
Fill in Title (any name you will recognise), Type (HTTP or SOCKS5), Hostname, Port, Username and Password.
Click Save. FoxyProxy's help states that changes do not take effect until they are saved.
A proxy is identified by its hostname and port. Username and password are stored per port, so one host can have different logins on different ports.
The toolbar popup offers three ways to work, according to the FoxyProxy help.
Individual proxy: choose one of your proxies and every connection from the browser goes through it. Patterns do not apply in this mode.
Proxy by Patterns: FoxyProxy checks each address against the patterns you define. At least one include pattern must exist for the menu to show. Addresses that match no pattern connect directly, and if an address matches both an include and an exclude pattern, the exclude pattern wins.
Disable: the browser handles proxying itself, so FoxyProxy sends nothing through your proxy.
Patterns are written as Wildcard, Match or Reg Exp. In the help, the wildcard *.example.com matches www.example.com. Start with an individual proxy to confirm the connection, then move to patterns if only some sites should use it.
This is the most common surprise. The FoxyProxy help lists authentication support in two lines: HTTP and HTTPS proxy authentication works in Chrome and Firefox, while SOCKS5 proxy authentication works in Firefox only, and it states that Chrome does not support SOCKS authentication.
Proxy302's SOCKS5 port asks for a username and password, so in Chrome or Edge choose Type HTTP and port 2222 on proxy.proxy302.com. In Firefox you can use SOCKS5 on port 3333. Each static IP is issued with one protocol, so use the port that matches the protocol shown in My assets.
For SOCKS5, Firefox has the Proxy DNS option, which the help describes as passing DNS lookups to the SOCKS proxy and says defaults to on. Its table also states that in Chrome name resolution with HTTP and SOCKS5 proxies is done on the proxy side.
Open https://ipinfo.io/json in a tab while the proxy is selected. The ip and country fields should belong to the proxy, not to your own connection. If they show your own address, FoxyProxy is not the one handling the traffic.
The Options page also has a Test function that runs a request through a chosen proxy against an IP check server. The help notes that on Chrome the proxy authentication has to be done before you start the test.
For how to read the other fields, see the proxy location guide.
The page still shows your own IP: check the mode. Disable sends traffic directly. A grey toolbar icon means another extension is handling proxying; turn the other one off. In a private window, check the permission described above.
A login box keeps appearing, or the error is 407: the proxy did not accept the username or password. Retype both, make sure the Type matches the port, and read the authentication guide.
An edit has no effect: click Save in Options.
Localhost is not proxied: per the help, connections to localhost, 127.0.0.1/8 and ::1 are never proxied by the browser by default.
FoxyProxy only needs the four values a Proxy302 proxy gives you. Rotating residential traffic is billed per GB and the exit country is chosen when you generate the proxy; a static ISP IP stays fixed for the whole lease term and does not rotate. The table below shows exits in 7 countries from our latest hourly check; the probe sends its request to ChatGPT, which is only an example target of a network check. A proxy does not change ChatGPT's terms, and OpenAI's list of supported countries still applies. Details are on the rotating residential page and in the proxy location guide.
| Item | City | Network (ISP) | ASN |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Neenah, Wisconsin | Charter Communications Inc | AS10796 |
| United Kingdom | Cowplain, England | TalkTalk Communications Limited | AS13285 |
| Germany | Köln, North Rhine-Westphalia | NetCologne Gesellschaft fur Telekommunikation mbH | AS8422 |

| Singapore | Singapore, Singapore | Singtel Fibre Broadband | AS9506 |
| Brazil | Mauá, São Paulo | TELEFÔNICA BRASIL S.A | AS27699 |

Hourly check of the Proxy302 probe, 25 October 2026, 08:29 UTC: one request to ChatGPT per country through a dynamic residential exit, using the public Proxy302 entry. Only the first three octets of an IP are public. One sample per country, not an average; later checks will differ.
Open the rotating residential page, choose the line, and keep Protocol on HTTP or choose SOCKS5, then click Review cost and generate.
Open My assets (the console page that holds everything you bought) and copy HOST, PORT, USERNAME and PASSWORD. The Connect page shows a ready example with your own endpoint.
Enter the details in the browser or tool you are setting up.
Confirm the exit with https://ipinfo.io/json through the proxy.
From mainland China, start the helper tool from the Connect page first and keep it open while you use the proxy.
The Budget line costs US$1.50 per GB, US$1.35 per GB in a 100 GB package and US$1.20 per GB at 300 GB. There is no free trial, and the smallest purchase is 1 GB. Which exit locations are available changes daily.
FoxyProxy's help says SOCKS5 authentication is supported in Firefox only and that Chrome does not support SOCKS authentication. In Chrome or Edge, use an HTTP proxy on port 2222.
An individual proxy sends all browser connections through the selected proxy. Proxy by Patterns sends only the addresses that match your include patterns and connects directly for the rest.
If the stored username and password are missing or wrong for that host and port, the browser asks for them. Credentials are saved per port, so check that they sit on the port you use.
Open https://ipinfo.io/json through the browser and compare the country with your direct connection.
