How to Set Up a Proxy on iPhone: Wi-Fi Network, Checking the IP and SOCKS5

On iPhone a proxy is set for one Wi-Fi network. This guide shows where that is in Apple's help, what to enter, how to check the result, and what to do when the system setting is not enough.

What Apple's help says

The iPhone User Guide says that after your iPhone joins a Wi-Fi network you can change settings for that network. Go to Settings, tap Wi-Fi and the info icon next to the network; the settings include "Configure DNS, HTTP Proxy, and other network settings": tap a setting, then enter the details. Another Apple page, about iOS Setup Assistant, describes the same route: tap the info button next to the network name, and the settings include "Set up an HTTP proxy".

Note that these Apple pages present the proxy as a setting of one Wi-Fi network. They do not describe such a setting for mobile data.

What to enter

Apple's reference for Wi-Fi configuration profiles describes two proxy types, manual and automatic. A manual proxy needs the server address with its port and, optionally, a user name and password; an automatic one needs the address of a PAC file. Have the address, port, username and password from My assets ready. Proxy302 HTTP is on port 2222 of proxy.proxy302.com.

What to enter: steps

  1. Step 1

    Open Settings and tap Wi-Fi.

  2. Step 2

Tap the info icon next to the connected network.

  3. Step 3

Scroll to the bottom, find the proxy setting and choose the manual option.

  4. Step 4

Enter the proxy address in the server address box and 2222 in the port box. If your proxy needs a login, turn on the authentication option and enter the username and password.

  5. Step 5

Save and go back to the Wi-Fi screen.

If you need SOCKS5

For a Wi-Fi network the Apple pages above mention only an HTTP proxy setting and do not mention SOCKS5. If you need SOCKS5 (port 3333 at Proxy302) or a login that the setting does not take, use a client app such as Shadowrocket; see the Shadowrocket guide.

Check the outgoing IP

Open https://ipinfo.io/json in Safari. The ip and country fields should belong to the proxy, not to your own connection. If your usual address shows, check that you are on the same Wi-Fi network you set the proxy for, because the setting belongs to that network only. The proxy location guide explains the fields.

Turn the proxy off

Open the same Wi-Fi network settings screen and switch the proxy off for that network. Then open https://ipinfo.io/json in Safari again and confirm your usual address shows.

Typical mistakes

A wrong port: Proxy302 HTTP is 2222 and SOCKS5 is 3333. Do not type the SOCKS5 port into the HTTP proxy setting. Check that the iPhone is on the Wi-Fi network you set the proxy for. If the username or password is not accepted, see the authentication guide. Type only the address in the server box and the port in the port box, with no extra characters.

How to do it with Proxy302

On iPhone, use the Proxy302 HTTP proxy: host proxy.proxy302.com, port 2222, and the username and password from My assets. Rotating residential traffic is billed per GB and the exit country is set when you generate the proxy; a static ISP IP stays fixed for the whole lease term and does not rotate. The table shows exits in 7 countries from our latest hourly check; the probe sends its request to ChatGPT, which is only an example target of a network check. A proxy does not change ChatGPT's terms, and OpenAI's list of supported countries still applies. Details are on the static ISP page and in the proxy location guide.

Hourly check of the Proxy302 probe, 25 October 2026, 08:29 UTC: one request to ChatGPT per country through a dynamic residential exit, using the public Proxy302 entry. Only the first three octets of an IP are public. One sample per country, not an average; later checks will differ.

How to do it with Proxy302: steps

  1. Step 1

Open the rotating residential page, choose the line, and keep Protocol on HTTP or choose SOCKS5, then click Review cost and generate.

  2. Step 2

Open My assets (the console page that holds everything you bought) and copy HOST, PORT, USERNAME and PASSWORD. The Connect page shows a ready example with your own endpoint.

  3. Step 3

Enter the details in the browser or tool you are setting up.

  4. Step 4

Confirm the exit with https://ipinfo.io/json through the proxy.

  5. Step 5

From mainland China, start the helper tool from the Connect page first and keep it open while you use the proxy.

Prices and limits

The Budget line costs US$1.50 per GB, US$1.35 per GB in a 100 GB package and US$1.20 per GB at 300 GB. There is no free trial, and the smallest purchase is 1 GB. Which exit locations are available changes daily.

FAQ

Does the proxy work over mobile data?

The Apple help this guide relies on presents the proxy only as a Wi-Fi network setting. It describes no such setting for mobile data.

How do I use SOCKS5 on iPhone?

Through a client app that supports SOCKS5, such as Shadowrocket. Proxy302 SOCKS5 is on port 3333.

How do I check that the proxy works?

Open https://ipinfo.io/json in Safari and compare the country and network with your direct connection.

Do I need to set the proxy again on another Wi-Fi network?

Yes. The setting belongs to one network, so set it separately for another.
