View options and pricingOpening a seller account on Amazon Japan comes down to three things: have the right documents ready, pick a selling plan, and pass identity verification. This guide uses only Amazon's and Japan's tax agency's own pages, all opened on 4 November 2026.
Amazon's registration page lists six things to have ready: an email address that has not been used on Amazon (or the same address as your Amazon Brand Registry account); a government-issued ID with your photo, such as a passport or driving licence; a statement issued within the last 180 days, such as a credit card statement, an online banking transaction record or a bank passbook; a phone number Amazon can reach you on; a valid credit card; and the bank account that will receive your payouts.
Amazon adds that the Japanese My Number card is not accepted as an ID for the review. For credit cards, the identity page says Mastercard, American Express and Visa work and JCB and Diners do not. Do not reuse the email of a shopping account, an Amazon Business account or an Amazon Pay account.
Step 1, business information: where your business is located, the business type, the company name exactly as registered, the corporate number, the registered address, and a phone number with the country code. Step 2, seller information, taken from your government ID: name, nationality, country and date of birth, home address, phone number, and whether you are the beneficial owner, the legal representative, or both.
Step 3, payment information: your bank and credit card details. The monthly service fee is charged to the registered credit card, and the bank account must be opened in the name of the business, person or company that will sell. Step 4, shop and product information: the shop name shown to customers (it must be unique but need not match your company name), a product code such as a JAN code (some categories can ask for an exemption), and whether you make the product or own the brand.
Step 5 is identity verification, covered below and in the separate guide. After you provide the information, Amazon's page says review takes about 3 business days.
Amazon Japan has two selling plans. Individual is called 小口出品 (koguchi shuppin, "small-lot listing"): no monthly fee, 100 yen per item. Professional is called 大口出品 (oguchi shuppin, "large-lot listing"): a flat 4,900 yen a month, however many items you sell. On top of either plan, Amazon takes a sales commission on each sale; it depends on the category and is usually 5% to 15.4% of total sales. Amazon shows the 4,900 yen fee excluding tax.
Amazon's own guide line is 49 items a month. Its pricing page describes the Individual plan as suited to selling up to 49 items a month and the Professional plan as suited to selling 49 or more. The sum is simple: 49 items x 100 yen = 4,900 yen, the same as one month of the Professional plan. Amazon also says you can change or cancel your plan at any time.
The other fees (commission by category, fulfilment, storage) are covered on the fees page.
Amazon's registration page asks "Do I need a Japanese bank account?" and answers no. The option it gives is the Amazon Currency Converter: your sales proceeds are converted into the currency of your account and paid into a bank account outside Japan. Amazon points to its own list of supported countries, regions and currencies, so check that your bank's country and currency are on that list before you register.
The account must be opened in the name of the business, person or company that sells. When you register, Amazon asks which name appears on the bank account; use the name the bank holds.
Identity verification is called 本人確認 (honnin kakunin) in Japanese. It is Amazon's check that the person behind the account is who the documents say, and that the business exists. In step 5 you upload your ID and a statement, then take a photo of your face with your ID or join or book a video call with an Amazon adviser.
Amazon asks you to register as the operator the person who actually runs the account, and to submit that person's ID. If your documents are incomplete, Amazon says it will ask you to submit them again. The documents for companies and for sole proprietors, file rules and the steps are in the identity verification guide.
適格請求書 (tekikaku seikyusho) is the "qualified invoice" of Japan's invoice system. Japan's National Tax Agency says the system began on 1 October 2023. In plain words: a business that buys goods and pays consumption tax can generally deduct that tax only if it keeps an invoice from the seller that shows the seller's registration number, with some exceptions. To issue such invoices, a seller must first register with the tax office.
The Agency says that registering means you become a taxable business and must file consumption tax returns, and that a registered business is not exempt from consumption tax whatever its sales. The number you receive is published on the Agency's public site and looks like T plus the corporate number, or T plus 13 digits. Overseas businesses apply through e-Tax or by post, attaching documents that show their name, overseas address and business; for a business with no office in Japan the Agency can refuse registration in certain cases, for example when no tax agent or tax administrator has been notified.
Amazon's five registration steps do not include this registration; it is a separate application to the tax office. Whether it suits you depends on who your customers are and how you file tax, so consult a tax adviser for your own case.
Register, verify your identity and later log in to Seller Central from one stable connection whose exit location does not change, and do not switch exits in the middle of verification. Keeping the connection steady also keeps your own records clear: you can write down which connection was used for which step. An IP does not change Amazon's review or its rules.
If you use Proxy302 for this, a static ISP IP keeps the same address for the whole lease, and Japan is listed in the order form (availability is shown on the order page). A static ISP IP costs US$0.50 for one day or US$7.99 for 30 days, and you choose HTTP or SOCKS5 for each IP when you buy it. To see where your current exit appears to be, use the IP location check guide.
No. Amazon's registration page says you can have sales proceeds paid into a bank account outside Japan through the Amazon Currency Converter. Check Amazon's list of supported countries, regions and currencies first.
Amazon describes Individual (小口出品, 100 yen per item) as suited to up to 49 items a month and Professional (大口出品, 4,900 yen a month) as suited to 49 or more. You can change or cancel the plan at any time.
Amazon's page says about 3 business days after you provide the information.
No. Amazon says the My Number card and the My Number driving licence cannot be used for the review. Use a passport or a driving licence.
Amazon's five registration steps do not include it. It is a separate application to Japan's tax office, and it makes you a taxable business that files consumption tax returns. Consult a tax adviser about your case.
No. An IP changes only the network address Amazon sees. It does not change Amazon's review or its rules.
