BitBrowser proxy setup
Step-by-step guide to using Proxy302 proxies in BitBrowser: where to paste host, port, username and password, which proxy to buy, partner offers and FAQ.
BitBrowser can fail in two ways: Proxy Detection reports a failure, or it passes and the page still does not open. Each points to a different place.
BitBrowser's help says: if the proxy check fails, click the fingerprint icon of the window to open the update dialog, then click "Proxy Detection". The result tells you where to look. Failed: the proxy itself cannot be reached, so go through items 2, 3, 5 and 7. Passed but the page will not open: go to item 6.
In the window's proxy settings, the proxy method is Custom, and the proxy type is http, https, socks5 or ssh, chosen according to what you actually have. If the type differs from what the proxy server speaks, detection fails. What to change: set the type to the protocol of the IP, then run detection again.
On Proxy302, each IP asset has one protocol, HTTP on port 2222 or SOCKS5 on port 3333, the one you chose when you bought it; My assets has no switch for it.
The fields are proxy host, port, username and password. For batch import, BitBrowser's template takes host:port:username:password on one line, for example 11.22.33.44:8888:user:password. Copy the details from the console instead of typing them, and check that nothing is swapped or has a stray space. BitBrowser's Proxy302 page also pastes the whole address:port:username:password line into the host box.
BitBrowser lets you choose how the IP is looked up: IP-API, IP123 and a Luminati-specific channel. If a lookup returns nothing or a place you did not expect, switch the lookup channel and run detection again before you decide the proxy is bad. Then compare with the curl test below.
BitBrowser says that if the page will not open and your network environment is in China, you should try the proxy in an overseas network environment. For Proxy302, BitBrowser's Proxy302 page has you start the Proxy302 helper tool first and use its LAN address in the proxy host box; that page is old, so use the helper tool guide for current steps.
This means BitBrowser reached the proxy. BitBrowser's help says to analyze it by the local network: from a network in China, try the proxy in a foreign network environment (item 5); if you are already outside China, contact BitBrowser support. The curl test below tells you whether the proxy works for normal requests from the same computer.
BitBrowser's help pages that we read do not cover expiry or sign-in errors, so this comes from the Proxy302 side. A per-IP lease runs until its end date unless renewed; rotating residential needs traffic on the account. If it is over, renew or top up, then run detection again. A 407 or sign-in prompt points to credentials; see the proxy authentication guide.
# HTTP
curl -x http://LOGIN:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT https://ipinfo.io/json
# SOCKS5 (DNS is also resolved through the proxy)
curl -x socks5h://LOGIN:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT https://ipinfo.io/jsonExample only: replace the placeholder values with your own.
If the proxy works, the response is JSON with the exit IP, country and provider; you can also open https://ipinfo.io/json in the BitBrowser window and compare. A timeout means the host, port or network is the problem (items 3 and 5). A 407 or "User was rejected" means the credentials are wrong. More on checking the location is in the proxy checking guide.
If you have been through everything and detection still fails, BitBrowser tells you to contact the proxy supplier. For a Proxy302 IP, send us the order number: a failed IP is fixed by reissuing it.
BitBrowser's Proxy302 page asks for nothing beyond the details Proxy302 gives you: generate the proxy, copy address:port:username:password, and paste it into the proxy host box. The full walkthrough is on the BitBrowser page.
Open My assets in the console, click the IP and note its protocol. Copy host, port, username and password, or the host:port:user:pass line.
In BitBrowser create or edit the window, choose Custom proxy, set the type to the same protocol, and paste the line into the proxy host box (or fill the four fields).
Run Proxy Detection, then confirm the exit with https://ipinfo.io/json through the proxy.
From mainland China, start the helper tool from the Connect page first and keep it open while you use the proxy.
