AdsPower Proxy Check Failed: 7 Things to Check, in Order

AdsPower shows this when it cannot open a connection to the proxy: Check Proxy returns "Connection test failed", or a profile opens and reports a proxy failure.

What the message means

AdsPower's Proxy failure page says the error means the proxy connection in the profile failed. On the proxy settings page, Check Proxy gives one of two answers: "Connection test passed" means AdsPower reached the proxy, and "Connection test failed" means it could not. In both cases the question is only whether AdsPower can reach the proxy; it says nothing about any website. Go through the items below in order and stop at the first one that fixes it.

1. Proxy type does not match

AdsPower offers HTTP, HTTPS and Socks5 (and SSH) as proxy types. Choose the one your provider gave you, not the one you expect to work. Where to look: New Profile > Proxy, field Proxy type. What to change: set it to the provider's protocol, then click Check Proxy again.

On Proxy302, each IP asset is issued with one protocol, HTTP on port 2222 or SOCKS5 on port 3333, and My assets has no switch for it. Use the protocol you chose when you bought that IP.

2. Host, port, username or password is wrong

Fill in Host:Port, Proxy username and Proxy Password. AdsPower accepts one pasted line in the form host:port:username:password in the Host field and splits it into the fields. If your provider writes the details as account:password@host:port, copy each part into its own field instead. Typing by hand is where most mistakes come in, so copy from the console; check for a trailing space or a swapped host and port.

3. The proxy has expired or run out

AdsPower tells you to check with the provider that the proxy has not expired. On Proxy302, an IP bought per IP lease runs until its end date unless you renew it, and rotating residential works only while the account still has traffic. If the lease is over or the traffic is gone, renew or top up, then run Check Proxy again.

4. The computer's own network cannot reach the proxy

AdsPower says a mainland China network limits access to overseas proxy IPs, so an overseas proxy needs a stable non-mainland network on the computer. To see what AdsPower sees, click your avatar > Personal settings > Local settings > Network detection (client 6.8.5 or later). If "Detect local network" shows cn and "Detect system proxy" shows nothing detected, the proxy usually cannot connect. The avatar menu also has Network diagnostics, which shows the software version, local network and system proxy.

AdsPower's suggestions for a mainland network are to run AdsPower on an overseas cloud server (VPS), to use an overseas line the carrier has registered, or to ask the proxy provider. For Proxy302 from mainland China, the helper tool is our own way in: start it from the Connect page and keep it open. See the helper tool guide for the current steps.

5. A VPN or system proxy on the device is interfering

AdsPower's Proxy failure page asks you to check whether a VPN or proxy is running on the device; if so, turn it off and restart the computer. A different case is when you reach overseas networks through a network tool: if Network detection shows a non-cn region next to "Detect system proxy", AdsPower lets you turn on Network connection > Use system proxy to connect to proxy. Either way, the setting that decides is what Network detection reports.

6. Test the same proxy outside AdsPower

AdsPower suggests testing the proxy on another device or another network. If it works there, the problem is your own network; if it fails there too, the problem is the proxy, and the provider should check it. You can also test in an ordinary browser: Chrome with the ZeroOmega extension for HTTP and HTTPS, Firefox with FoxyProxy for SOCKS5 that has a username and password, then open an IP lookup site. The curl test in the next section does the same from a terminal.

7. The check passes but shows the wrong region

This is not a connection failure. AdsPower's help says to leave the IP lookup channel on its default unless you need another, and that if the region shown by Check Proxy differs from where you bought the IP, you can switch the lookup channel and check again. Compare with a second source such as the curl test below before you change anything else.

Check the proxy with curl: example

# HTTP
curl -x http://LOGIN:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT https://ipinfo.io/json

# SOCKS5 (DNS is also resolved through the proxy)
curl -x socks5h://LOGIN:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT https://ipinfo.io/json

Example only: replace the placeholder values with your own.

How to confirm the exit IP

If the proxy works, the response is JSON with the exit IP, country and provider. A timeout means the host, port or your network is the problem (items 2 and 4). A 407 response or "User was rejected" means the credentials are wrong; see the proxy authentication guide. If the answer is correct but AdsPower still fails, run Check Proxy again after items 4 and 5.

If you have been through everything above, AdsPower asks you to contact its online support and tell them you did. For a Proxy302 IP that does not work, send us the order number: a failed IP is fixed by reissuing it.

Setting up Proxy302 in AdsPower

On the AdsPower side, Proxy302 needs nothing beyond the four fields: host, port, username and password, with the proxy type that matches the IP. AdsPower also has a Proxy302 entry under Proxies > Configuration, where the host and port usually read proxy.proxy302.com:2222 and you enter your username and password. The full walkthrough, with screenshots, is on the AdsPower page.

How to do it with Proxy302: steps

  1. Step 1

Open My assets in the console and click the IP or proxy. Note the protocol (HTTP or SOCKS5) and copy host, port, username and password, or the host:port:user:pass line.

  2. Step 2

In AdsPower, set Proxy type to the same protocol and enter the details in Host:Port, Proxy username and Proxy Password.

  3. Step 3

Click Check Proxy. When it says Connection test passed, confirm the exit with https://ipinfo.io/json through the proxy.

  4. Step 4

From mainland China, start the helper tool from the Connect page first and keep it open while you use the proxy.
