Why rank tracking needs local IPs — and care

Rankings depend on where and how you search. Google tailors results to location, language and device, and searches minutes apart can differ while updates roll out across data centers. A rank checked from your office is one city's answer.

Collecting Google results got harder in the last year. In September 2025 Google stopped serving 100 results per page, so tracking a top 100 now takes about ten requests instead of one. In October 2026 tracker vendors reported super-wide IP blocking aimed at major residential proxy networks, more captchas and deliberately wrong data on suspect pages.

So treat every results page as evidence to check, not as fact: query from a household IP in the city you track, keep volume low and steady, confirm the page is a real results page and record captchas as unknown. Bing retired its Search APIs on August 11, 2025, so tracking Bing through that API is no longer an option.

Set up rank tracking proxies in 5 steps

1. Open the setup

   The button below opens Rotating Residential Proxies with the AI and automation use case. Optionally pick Google Search under Choose a platform, then choose the Line.

2. Buy traffic

   Open Add traffic, pick a package or a Custom GB (from 1 GB) and click Buy selected package.

3. Generate one proxy per location

   Under Connection settings set Exit mode to Choose region / sticky IP and pick Region, State and City for each location you track. Keep Protocol on HTTP and click Review cost and generate.

4. Query like a local

   Set hl (language) and gl (country) in the query and the same locale in the browser. Track desktop and mobile separately.

5. Validate before you store

   Use the code below: a captcha or consent page is recorded as unknown and retried later, never as rank 0.

   Before continuing Expect some checks to fail. Google is actively blocking automated collection, so plan retries and spot checks rather than counting on every request.

Syntax-checked only. Google's pages change often and, in October 2026, Google was blocking much automated collection; the script records captcha or consent pages as unknown instead of a lost ranking.
